I have had very few problems with Emmerson Middle School except for being misinformed by their office staff on several occasions and harassed. When our family moved up to 18th Street I was told that in order for my 6th grader to continue at Emmerson, I needed to get a inter-school contract, as another school was now closer. Wrong... Emmerson was still the closest school but I spent 1/2 day running around, getting documents signed so my daughter could continue at Emmerson, where she enjoyed her teachers and friends. None of that was necessary if I had been correctly informed.
This past week I had car problems. The school kindly picked up my daughter on Monday, no problem. I thought I'd have my car problems fixed but today I faced the same car problem and called the school. I was told by Ms. Vasquez at Emmerson that she would call around and try to find a staff person to pickup my daughter and call me back. After two hours I called back and she rudely told me I had signed a contract to get my daughter to school and it was my responsibility. Not theirs. I told her I was only asking for help. Earlier when I first called I explained to her that my mail has been taken, including my income check. And cashed by someone. It's going to be replaced. I didn't have gas funds at all. She seemed understanding, so I was really caught off guard when she got hostile on this last call... I made to say I could bring my daughter at noon...but she yelled first before hearing me out. I am a retired secretary myself an in 35 years of working in a Admin position I never treated anyone so poorly. Yes Ms. Vasquez, my daughter has every right to attend Emmerson School and it's STILL the nearest school to us! Thanks for sending me on a wild goose chase to put my daughter in another school when we moved, Wrong info! I'm a single parent ( grandma) raising the last child in the nest, doing the best I can. And I'm disabled but not dumb. Well, I hope Emmerson School staff treat other parents better. I didn't deserve that treatment, I was already worried about my little girls transportation, ect., ect....
